Birds of Paradise tells the story of one woman's quest for identity following the implosion of her career and personal life in Toronto.

 

Inheriting a mysterious property in Portugal's remote and stunningly beautiful Madeira archipelago off the coast of North Africa, she is drawn into an inter-generational mystery which will yield profound and troubling revelations about her origins.

 

Guided only by a tattered journal, her wits and an insatiable zest for life, she must navigate a place where time stands still, and the injustices of the past cast long shadows. Assisted by an exotic romantic interest and the fundamental goodness of humble local people, she discovers who she truly is. And what was taken from her.
